Energy Generation from Wastewater Discharge with Hydro Power Pods
Hydro power pods offer a unique opportunity to generate energy from the water discharges from existing water treatment facilities. Installed at the end of the treatment plant’s water discharge pipework, Hydro Power Pods uses the flow of water discharged from the plant to generator power that can either be fed back to the plant to support local power needs or routed elsewhere. Harnessing the kinetic energy present in the water as it feeds into the discharge water course, we are able to turn this previously untapped resource into a valuable source of renewable energy.
In addition, by utilizing the Venturi effect and vortex chamber technology, Hydro Power Pods increases flow velocity and enhances water aeration. This innovative approach not only generates energy but also improves water quality by increasing dissolved oxygen levels. Discharging water through the Venturi rather than directly into the river also mixes the discharge water with a large volume of river water thus diluting the discharge water before it enters the river. This has a beneficial effect on the quality of water in the waterway and has a positive impact on downstream ecosystems.
Our pods are constructed from lightweight GRP sections, making them easy to transport, install, and maintain. The system integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure, requiring minimal modifications and downtime. With rapid deployment capabilities, our solution provides a cost-effective, scalable way to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of large hydropower operations.
By recovering energy from the discharge water flow, Hydro power pods offer an immediate, sustainable power source that enhances profitability and environmental performance, making them an ideal addition to any water treatment facility.
